On The Road
One of the benefits of living in Ocala is the road access. Not only I-75, and a close connection with the Turnpike – major US and State arteries cross Marion County. And major local roads are, for the most part, four-lanes with medians, in addition to the exquisite winding two-lane scenic roads that wind past thoroughbred horse farms. It’s really gorgeous here.
Living here also is a way to watch the world in a sense. In 2006, at holiday time, traffic was bumper to bumper in all lanes on the expressway. Driving on the turnpike that year created a challenge if you stopped at a rest station, day or night, because it was difficult to find a break in the traffic flow in order to re-enter the right-of-way.
Then, as the economy lost momentum, so did the traffic. But, yesterday, driving south on I-75, there were trucks. Not solid lines of them, but lots of trucks nevertheless. That’s a sign of economic vitality. A very welcome sign.
